Movie Thoughts

LadyAce and I had a fun little movie marathon a couple of weeks back.

Some observations on the flicks we saw...

TROLL 2
Pure MovieFail.

I'm not even sure why this movie needed to be made. The writing was atrocious, the acting sub-par, and the "effects" laughable. The trolls (or goblins, according to the movie) looked like Little People wearing rubber masks and brown cotton track suits.

It's like they didn't even bother to make a good movie.

The first TROLL kicks this one's ass.

STARSHIP TROOPERS 2: HERO OF THE FEDERATION
I still call this Spaceship Troopers simply because there are no jumpsuits. Otherwise, it's not a bad movie. Not great. But not bad.

I did miss the newsreels and the "Would you like to know more" bits.

Brenda Strong comes back but plays a different character--Sgt. Dede Rake. If you recall, she played Capt. Deladier in the first movie. Would've been a nice nod to continuity if her character was either related to Deladier or if someone mentioned a resemblace to the Captain.

STARSHIP TROOPERS 3: MARAUDER
(I got the Starship Troopers box set for Christmas so we watched the other two films)

Overall, a good movie. Except for the overtly religious tone toward the end. Felt like it was being shoved in my face. Didn't care for that.

But Casper Van Dien comes back as Johnny Rico, now a Colonel. And they finally show us mechs. Not the jumpsuits of the book, but close enough for me.

And the newsreels and "Do you want to know more" bits were back.

Still, the God stuff made me go meh.

Bloggy Stuff and Other Bits

After seeing this tweet from @goraina the other day, I decided it was time to revamp my main site. Kinda tie everything together in a neat little package.

I guess you could call it "branding."

Right now, all that stuff's going on behind the scenes so nothing's gone live yet.

I'll share when it's time for the relaunch.

Some of you who follow the serial may have noticed that it's on break at the moment.

Translation: playing catch up on stories.

Further translation: working my ass off to catch up on stories.

Honestly, that move back in November kicked my ass and upended the works. I think I'm only now slowly reaching the edge of the hole resulting from that PITA.

But onwards and upwards, as they say.

I leave you with the following thought:

"I am ninja, hear me roar--but you can't."

The Rose and Bay Award for Web Fiction

Web fiction now has its own award.
The Rose and Bay Award focuses on a growing business model known as "crowdfunding" or "cyberfunded creativity," which directly connects creative people and patrons of the arts online. This award recognizes exemplary projects and enthusiastic patrons. It spans five categories: Art, Fiction, Poetry, Other Project, and Patron. (Other Project includes any cyberfunded creativity that isn't art, fiction, or poetry -- or that spans more than one category.)
Nominations are open until 31 January 2010. The voting period runs 1 Feburary through 28 February 2010.

Think KAT AND MOUSE should be eligible for the Fiction category? Let 'em know.

[VOICE ACTING] Audiobook Project

Currently working on an audiobook narration for a podcast. Also called a "podiobook."

Ergo, I'm currently working on a podiobook.

I'll leave things vague for the moment and give complete details when it finally goes live.

And yes, it's a hired gig. That's all sorts of win.

Cons in 2010

It may be January but there's no better time to get ready for this year's Cons.

Lady Ace (my lovely Wife) and I will be at Comic-Con. Who else will we see there?

And don't forget WonderCon in April. Who will we see there?
