DAICON IV Opening Animation

I first saw this my freshman year in high school, just as I was starting to get into anime.

Blew my mind.

Now this is my kind of sensawunda.

Currently Reading

At the moment, I'm in the middle of White Night, the 8th book in the Dresden Files.

And just a comment on Proven Guilty, the previous book in the series...

Good, solid read, just like the others. I loved when Harry started quoting from Aliens whilst taking on a nasty beastie.

My one problem was this bit. Rawlins, a cop, is talking to Harry during the aftermath of an encounter with some critters at a convention. Rawlins says:
Some of the civilians were carrying. That howling thing went by in the dark and everyone panicked....Civilians opened fire, cops opened fire...
Emphasis mine.

I'm sorry. This is supposed to be Chicago, right? Daley's city? Mr. Richard "I Want to shove a gun up your ass" Daley?

Sorry, but that bit kicked me out of the book.

Of course, after a bit of careful consideration, if your version of Chicago allows for licensed carry for citizens, hell, I'm for it.

Needless to say, that was just a small bump on the road. I finished reading.

Progress Notes

Tales of Episode #112
We are currently at

2,465 / 6,000

Based on the way this episode is shaping up, it looks like it'll be a short one. Along the lines of "Rest Stop" or "Here, Kitty Kitty."

Y'all know what that means, of course.

Means I'll need to move my ass on #113 once this is finished.

Heinlein's Rules, Revisited

Caught this io9 post on Heinlein's Rules of Writing. Once again, a thumbs-down on Rule #3.

I talked about this a while back and I believe it's still the case.

Heinlein's referring to the trap of over-rewriting, not the actual process of revision. In other words, write the story, edit/polish/revise/rewrite, then FFS stop repeatedly fondling the damn thing and get it out to market.

Over to you, Dear Readers: Agree? Disagree? Cast a Delayed-Blast Fireball at me?
