Coming to Terms

In recent months I've come to terms with the extent of my writing career.

1. I embrace myself as a hack sci-fi pulp writer. These are the kinds of stories I like to write and the kinds of stories I enjoy. Essentially, a good action movie in prose. (Oh, I enjoy other kinds of stories, too. But these are the ones I find myself gravitating towards.)

2. Getting an agent will never happen. No agents are interested in short story collections or episodic fiction (which is what KAT AND MOUSE is, in essence).

3. By extension of #2 above, getting published by a name publisher or even a smaller imprint publisher will never happen. They aren't interested in a short story collection, episodic fiction, or something already "published" online. Hence my self-pubbing route.

4. The long hoped-for membership in SFWA will not happen. I don't meet any of the membership qualifications, for starters. And I don't write anything that would even appear in a SFWA qualifying market for a 1,000-word story sale (none of them publish sci-fi pulp).

So where does that put me?

Probably on the fringes.

But that's okay. I'll work the fringe element.

And I'll keep blowing my horn. There are folks listening and enjoying what I offer. I'll keep writing stories that they enjoy.

Maybe that'll be you.

If so, welcome aboard. Glad to have you along for the ride.

Tales of Episode #305A
Done and ready to queue up.

Tales of Episode #306
Draft clocked in at 13,882 words. Just finished 1st Pass Edits/Revisions. Prepping it to go to LadyAce for 2nd pass.

And we begin looking at the Calendar for likely dates of return.

And, of course, we'll give all-y'all enough of a heads up so you can catch up on episodes or go back and re-read to refresh.

Progress Notes: The Wordings Continue Apace

KAT&MOUSE: Tales of Episode #305A
Initial pass is done and is currently in First Round Edits.

KAT&MOUSE: Tales of Episode #306
Wordings in progress. Longhand. Currently at 10 pages. I may take a bit of time to transfer to type before continuing. We shall see what The Voices say.

Return Date
This is currently being hashed out. The tentative plan is to have Ep306's initial pass finished before committing to a date. Hopefully more info to follow.

I know. Some of you may it chomping at the bit for the return. Rest assured they will. It's getting close.

Yes, I keep saying that.

But it's true.

Bear with us.

Progress Notes: Surprise! New Wordings!

KAT AND MOUSE: Tales of Episode #305A
Yes, you read that right. Another vignette has reared up and said "Write me now, dammit!" So I'm in the middle of penning this at the moment. I hope to get this initial pass done in the next day or so.

KAT AND MOUSE: Tales of Episode #306
On a brief hold. See above.

This is how we roll folks.

Progress Notes: More Revisions and Plottings, and Maybe Wordings This Time

KAT AND MOUSE: Tales of Episode #306A
A wrap. Shifts and tweaks made and now this one has just been put to bed. It'll be called "Double Down."

KAT AND MOUSE: Tales of Episode #306
Looking to get started on wordings for this one in the next day or so. There's a few more background details I need to figure out. After that, we're set to word.

Progress Notes: Revisions and Plottings

KAT AND MOUSE: Tales of Episode #305
It's a wrap. This one is called "Dust Up."

KAT AND MOUSE: Tales of Episode #306A
A bridging episode now in revisions. First writing pass was okay. Need to shift and tweak some things.

KAT AND MOUSE: Tales of Episode #306
Preliminary plotting is finished. I've got a few details to check on (as in look over notes for continuity and other things) before settling in to wordings.

Wording will probably happen after 306A goes into finals. Maybe in the next few days.

And with that, we're getting ever closer to a return date. Have no fear. They WILL return.

Progress Notes: The Wordings Continue

KAT AND MOUSE: Tales of Episode #305
We have 20 pages handwritten, both sides of the paper, and we're close to done.

I think.

Once I wrap up with the longhand, I'll type it up and see where we are with word count.

And then edits.

And then, based on what I see here, we can (potentially) determine a return date.
